Leicestershire’s Open Museum Service - Moving Objects Evaluation

Mair Education recently undertook an evaluation of Leicestershire’s Open Museum Service’s Moving Objects scheme.

The Moving Objects scheme comprises an innovative range of small-scale, ready-made displays and exhibitions that tour to non-museum venues in the county’s towns and villages.

The evaluation involved research based activities to investigate how Moving Objects can develop and improve its service delivery to engage more hard to reach audiences. The research also tested the proposition of offering service users mediated outreach workshops/activity sessions.

As part of the research Sara conducted in depth interviews with users, lapsed users and non-users of the Moving Objects service as well as consultation with representatives of organisations that work with ‘diverse and non-traditional audiences’ to explore opportunities for partnership working.

It has been a pleasure working with Sara over recent months; not only is she friendly, approachable and flexible, but she is also hard working and very professional. She demonstrated a willingness to adapt her approach as necessary and was careful to listen to our specific requirements. Her preparation and research was thorough and her ability to be creative and deliver fantastic results was impressive. One of Sara’s greatest strengths is that she “gets on with the job” and possesses a refreshing “can do” attitude. I do not hesitate recommending her to any museum service wanting to take advantage of her knowledge and expertise.”
