Castle Morpeth Borough Council - ‘Castles, Woods & Water’ Educational Programme

As part of the Office for the Deputy Prime Minster funded ‘Castles, Woods & Water’ (CWW) project, designed to increase accessibility to an eight mile riverside and woodland area in Morpeth, Sara was responsible for creating and delivering an educational programme.

An exciting element of the project has also involved the creation of a film about the CWW project. Bringing together specialist filmmakers, Sara devised a training programme to work with local young people and provide opportunities for them to try filmmaking. Eight young people from King Edward VI High School, Morpeth were recruited to work on the project.

Sara devised a ground breaking adoption scheme as part of the programme. This involves local schools adopting an area of the CWW corridor. Sara produced a framework of creative activities such as a ‘bug watch’ to be used to implement the scheme.

I was very impressed, both with the apparent enthusiasm of the students for the project and for their local area and with the idea of commissioning the school to produce the film – an impressive example of engaging young people in the programme.
